Three steps, every time.

  1. 1

    Hold fn

Put your cursor where the words should go: a message, an email, a doc, a prompt. Then hold the fn key.

  2. 2

    Speak

Talk the way you would to a friend. Pause, ramble, correct yourself. The pill at the bottom of your screen shows Lipik is listening.

  3. 3

    Let go

The clean text is typed where your cursor is. If no text box is selected, it shows in a small card so you can copy it.

Questions

What do I need to run Lipik?

A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later). Clean-up is built in, with no extra app. During setup, one button downloads the clean-up model from Hugging Face: Qwen3 8B (5 GB) on Macs with 16 GB of memory or more, or Qwen3 4B Instruct (2.5 GB) on smaller Macs. Built-in clean-up needs macOS 13.3 or later. On older versions, you can use the free Ollama app for clean-up. Without a clean-up model, Lipik still types what you said, and its built-in rules fix "um", spoken punctuation, numbers, times and emails.

Does it cost anything?

No. Lipik is free, with no subscription, no account and no word limit.

Is there a Windows version?

Not yet. Lipik runs on macOS only for now.

Which languages does it understand?

English works out of the box with the Parakeet model. For other languages, download one of the free Whisper models in Settings; together they cover 99 languages. Hinglish (Hindi and English mixed, written in Roman letters) works in dictation, in beta on macOS 26 or later, and in meeting notes, where Lipik notices it by itself.

Why does macOS ask for Microphone and Accessibility access?

Microphone, so Lipik can hear you. Accessibility, so it can notice when you hold fn and type the text into the app you're using. What Lipik hears stays on your Mac.

Can I use a different key instead of fn?

Yes. You can pick any shortcut in Settings. Holding fn is the default because it rarely gets in the way of anything else.
