What Lipik does
- Hold fn, talk, let go: clean text is typed where your cursor is, in any app. fn + Space is hands-free.
- Speech to text runs on your Mac with Parakeet, an English model. On Indian-accented English it got 8.5% of words wrong in our benchmark.
- Clean-up removes "um", fixes punctuation and writes in the tone you set for each kind of app. It is built in and runs on your Mac.
- Hinglish, Hindi and English in one sentence, typed in Roman letters.
- A Dictionary for names, snippets, and meeting notes with no bot.
- The code is open source under the MIT licence, on GitHub.
When Wispr Flow may suit you better
If you need dictation on Windows, an iPhone or Android, Wispr Flow has apps for them. Lipik runs only on Macs with Apple silicon for now.
Moving over from Wispr Flow
- Install Lipik and allow Microphone and Accessibility.
- Hold fn and talk. You can pick a different shortcut in Settings.
- Add the names and words you use often to the Dictionary, and set a tone for chat, email and documents.
What needs the internet
After one-time model downloads, dictation works with Wi-Fi off. There is no account, and nothing you say leaves your Mac. The full list of what Lipik sends online is on the free dictation page.
Wispr Flow is a trademark of its owner. Lipik is not connected to it.
Questions
Is Lipik a free alternative to Wispr Flow?
Yes. Lipik is free, with no subscription, no account and no word limit. You hold fn, speak, and the text appears in any app. The code is open source under the MIT licence.
Does Lipik send my voice to a server?
No. Lipik turns your voice into text on your Mac, and the recording stays there. Only if you add your own API key for cloud clean-up does the text, not the recording, go to that provider.
Does Lipik work on Windows, iPhone or Android?
Not yet. Lipik runs on Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later).
Does Lipik work offline?
Yes, once the models are downloaded. The speech model is a one-time 731 MB download, and the optional clean-up model is 2.5 or 5 GB. After that, dictation works with Wi-Fi off.
Does it understand Indian English and Hinglish?
Yes. On 150 clips of Indian-accented English, Lipik's default speech model got 8.5% of words wrong. Hinglish dictation types Hindi and English in Roman letters on macOS 26 or later, and is in beta.
